Businesses realized the importance of having a digital presence.  During the pandemic, where some businesses started their digital journey while some others used their digital market to boost their business. On one hand, many businesses were shut down and on the other hand many businesses used this period to analyze their businesses’ strengths and weaknesses to improve their brand awareness through online presence.

After the 2020 pandemic, the digital marketing industry experienced many major changes.  Consider these 10 key trends while planning your digital marketing strategy to stay ahead in the game.  

  1. Voice Search – This is a feature in which a user uses his/ her voice to search anything on the web. Interestingly, voice search saw a growth rate of over 50% in the USA. The statistics are enough to describe why voice search is the major trend nowadays. One has to optimize the website for voice search. One of the many ways to do this is to include long tail keywords as well along with short tail keywords. Knowing the intent and behaviour of your target audience becomes necessary. Using schema markup for your website and optimizing for local SEO, also helps in Voice Search SEO.
  2. Structured Data – Structured Data, also known as schema markup is a markup language which is used by search engines to communicate with your website and understand the content. Structured data provides more information which gives an attractive look to your website in SERP and therefore, increases click-through rate. You can implement  structure data by using Google’s Structured Data Markup Helper Tool. Schema Markup helps to improve your website’s visibility in search engines.
  3. Speed Optimization – If you have a slow loading website, the chances of users bouncing back from your site becomes higher. With the speed of the internet becoming faster and faster, users also expect your website to load just as they click on it. After all, the first impression really matters. You can use tools like Google’s Pagespeed Tool, Pingdom etc to analyse your website’s loading time and resolve the issues, if any. You can optimize your website by reducing the size of the images used, reducing the number of plugins, using website caching, detecting and resolving technical errors, and looking for 404 errors.
  4. Guest Posts (Paid posts backlinks no longer give results) – Google ranks such websites which provide value to its users. When someone uses irrelevant content to rank using paid posts, then it leads to low click-through rate. Paid posts have become very competitive nowadays which has led to higher pay-per-click which ultimately increases your businesses’ expenses.
  5. Do Follow Blog Rolls Links –Google now no longer gives importance to do follow blog roll links. Blogroll links are such links which a writer links to your blog. It is a list of links which usually appears in the sidebar of the blog. They are used to drive traffic. Sometimes the links are irrelevant or they are coming from low-quality sites which may lower your website’s credibility.  
  6. Influencer Marketing – Influencers are people or organizations which have gained social influence in their field and have a huge following in their niche. Businesses partner with influencers to increase their brand awareness and bring in new customers. Influencer marketing is booming as more and more people trust the recommendations of influencers. The lockdown period brought a great opportunity for businesses to market their brand through influence marketing because people started spending more and more time on social media. It is a great way to target your niche audience.
  7. Quality Backlinks – Quality link building direct impacts SEO.  It helps in building your brand authority. Google gives more importance to quality links. The landscape of link building changed after Google introduced the Penguin Algorithm. According to Copyblogger, domain authority represents 23.87% of Google’s ranking algorithm. Building quality links gives Google the information that the content is useful to its users which helps in ranking your website. 
  8. Fresh and Updated content – User Generated Content (UGC) have always been on top priority for Google. Bringing unique, updated and engaging content for users increases the time spent on your website. In digital marketing, content has always been the king. A content which is useful for users and provides detailed information about a topic is highly preferred by Google.
  9. Creative Graphics – Creative images directly attract users to click to a website. It is very important to use good quality images with such a theme and layout which aligns with your business. Catchy creative directly catches the eyes of the user. Graphics are a way of communicating your message in a creative and innovative way which is easily understandable. It enhances the way you communicate with your target audience.
  10. Video Marketing –  According to Global WebIndex reporting, 56% of internet users watch videos on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or Snapchat every month. The importance of video marketing is at an all time high. This trend also led to the introduction of Instagram reels. Videos are getting a very high level of engagement. Creating short and brief videos is the key. Adding product videos, event videos, behind the scene videos, how-to videos can be very informative. 

Videos also need to be SEO optimized so that Google can rank. This can be done by using proper Title, Description, Hashtags. Using a transcript can also help. Also, using an engaging thumbnail can increase click-through and watch time.
